Breathe the salt air

20180528_192923Hi friends and crafters.    I love living along the Oregon coast, even though the weather is unpredictable. I might wake up to clear skies and sunshine, but hours later the fog has rolled in and the sky has turn battleship grey.  So, today’s card is in celebration of the sunny moments when you can sit on the beach in your lawn chairs and watch the sunset.  This is the third card in the celebrate the sea series for the month of June.

I started with a shadowbox template  I purchased from Heartfelt Creations.   They’re easy to use and had fun creating a variety of different projects with them.

I used a piece of teal colored cardstock and a  Spellbinders 6×6 square matting basics die cut to make a large frame for the front of the shadowbox. Next I made smaller frame using two of the square die cuts nested together on dark blue cardstock and ran it through my die cut machine. Next I used Spellbinders label 47  I used the large die from the set and cut two of them out of dark blue cardstock, and cut the decorative edges off and set them aside.    The stamped image is from Our Daily Bread stamps and dies  I used memento ink and Copics to color the image, added and  light touch of glossy accents to the ocean waves.  Next I cut the two chairs out of white cardstock along with the heron { Impression Obsession dies .}

I stamped the seagull on and piece of wood with shells onto white cardstock and colored them in with memento ink and copics and cut them out.  Next I used a die cut to create the grass { cut two}   used a sponge dauber and memento ink to color it.  Note: you can use any colors you like for the stamped images.  Next I made a top folding  card base out of 110lb cardstock to attach to the back of the shadowbox.   Now, its time to put it together.   I glue the stamped image of the sea onto the back flap of the shadowbox,    glued the chairs in place, a layer of grass then folded and glued the shadowbox together.  Glue three of  decorative edges { from the labels 47} along the side edges  of the piece of teal cardstock and glued it to the  front of the box. then  added the smaller blue frame on top of it.  I glued the other piece of grass on the front of the box on the bottom. I attached the seagull to the left side and driftwood with shells at an angle on the right side. I attached the heron with its feet behind the driftwood.  Last but not least I added a small sandpiper bird attached it to the grass on the front of the box and used a tiny dolphin die cut and glue it to the image on the inside of the shadowbox.

I hope this card inspires you to create your own beach scene and celebrate the sea with me.  Please feel free to leave a comment or ask questions.  I’d love to hear from you.

Happy Crafting J. Wallace
